China is preparing to be hit with the coldest weather in 30 years. Temperatures across the country will drop to below freezing over the weekend, with Beijing expected to hit -17°C, while typically mild southern cities like Shanghai and Changsha are forecast to endure below-freezing temperatures – the lowest in three decades.

On Thursday, schools were cancelled and many transport lines were shut, and supermarkets were sold out of staple foodstuffs. In China’s northern provinces, flights were cancelled and many airports were shut on Friday due to blizzard conditions. Read more: straitstimes.com
